Andrews AFB to the Pentagon

Andrews Air Force Base AFB could not get a fighter jet to protect the
Pentagon, just 9 miles by air, within 1 hour and 17 minutes on 9/11?
This situation could only happen if they were ordered not to respond.

8:20 - FAA confirms Flight 11 was a hijacking.  Fighter jets should have been scrambled at this time.
9:37 - Flight 77 hits the Pentagon
1:17 - Time that Andrews AFB had to protect the Pentagon.
Google Maps provides distance and time by various modes of transportation.

- Car:  0 hours 26 minutes
- Metro/Bus: 1 hour 11 minutes
- Bike: 1 hour 14 minutes
- Jet: could not get from Andrews to the Pentagon in time?
- Walking: 4 hours 18 minutes.   At least the jets were faster than walking.

Chuck Maultsby:

There were two fighter squadrons present at Andrews AFB, one USAF and one Marine Corps squadron. Andrews is 12 miles from the Pentagon. Any unresponsive bogey within P-56 (Prohibited Airspace 56, THE most protected airspace in the world that includes the Nations Capital) would be immediately brought down with mach-plus capable fighter aircraft and/or SAM missiles. To allow a non-responsive sub-sonic commercial aircraft to descend in a downward spiral from an altitude of 7,000 feet, then level off at the precise moment, and then describe a tight 360 degree circle before making a ground level hit exactly where the Pentagon's accounting offices were located... is absolutely inexcusable and many USAF Officers should have been court-marshaled.... unless there was collusion between the White House and the Pentagon that allowed for the Pentagon impact. And this superb flying was supposedly done by a Saudi with only rudimentary skills on single motor aircraft.
